Shopping on St. Croix
Duty-free shopping on St. Croix is one the most popular pastimes on our island. It’s so much fun to roam the streets of our historical twin cities looking for special treasures and keepsakes to commemorate your time on St. Croix.
Our top recommendation is to visit our renowned jewelry boutiques famous for our beautiful Crucian and hook bracelets. There you will also find earrings, necklaces, rings and more. But we are here to tell you, you cannot wear too many bracelets here! It’s part of our island style!
When jewelry shopping, there are two must-visit boutiques. Home to “handcrafted feel good jewelry,” ib designs has been voted best jewelry in the U.S. Virgin Islands several years in a row. There you can find exquisite pieces crafted by talented island artisans that are sure to make you feel good.
Sonya’s Fine Island Jewelry has been a St. Croix mainstay since the 1960s. It’s known as “home of the original hook bracelet,” but also be sure to check out their earrings, necklaces, rings and pieces that embody the elements, flora and the power of the wind and the sea.
You will also find the gamut of fashion, especially beautiful leisure and tropical attire that abounds in our shop. Islands arts and crafts are a special way to take a piece of St. Croix home with you. Of course, no trip to St. Croix would be complete without souvenir bottles of our local and famous rums.
The best part of shopping is our duty free status. Each U.S. resident, including children, can take home $1,600 worth of duty-free goods bought in the U.S. Virgin Islands. When returning to the U.S. mainland you will be required to fill out a separate customs form for these items. You may be asked to show your receipts, so it is important to keep a good record of what you buy. This duty-free allowance is double the $800 limit from other islands. You may also take 5 cartons of cigarettes and 5 liters of liquor back as long as one of the bottles is a product made in the Virgin Islands.
So add shopping to your Things To Do list!
