Transportation on St. Croix

Getting to St. Croix is possible through both major airlines and regional airlines. So you can fly directly from the United States mainland or connect through other Caribbean airports.

In addition to St. Thomas, VI, and San Juan, PR, for visits or flight connections, Seaborne/Silver Airways allows you to island hop from St. Croix to Anguilla, Antigua, Tortola, Dominica, St. Kitts and St. Maarten.

Cape Air is “committed to keeping you connected” to and from St. Croix to locations throughout the Caribbean as well as its numerous regional routes in the United States.

One of the most important things to know once you are on St. Croix is that vehicles drive on the left hand side of the road here, but nearly all of them have left side steering columns. So it is an adjustment for guests from right-hand traffic locales, but it pretty simple once you get into the mindset. Fortunately both life and traffic move pretty slowly on our island. At 27 miles long and 7 miles wide, St. Croix is the “big island” of the U.S. Virgin Islands. So renting a car is a great way to explore and travel between our “twin cities” of Christiansted and Fredericksted.

The St. Croix Hotel and Tourism Association has several rental car agencies that are Allied Members and the best and most reliable choices for securing your rental vehicle during your stay. So to rent a vehicle look to Budget, Centerline Car Rentals and Olympic Rent-A-Car.

Just remember that you need a valid driver’s license, a courteous driving manner and sometimes a little patience to drive around our beautiful and friendly island.

Sometimes it nice to let someone else drive, especially if you are wanting a narrated tour. That’s where St. Croix Safari Tours (340-773-6700) is a great option. You can see and learn about the island without having to navigate the roads yourself for a while. Again, please book through our members for the best experience.

One the best things about St. Croix is that our remote tropical location makes us a desirable destination to get away from it all, but rest assured it’s easy to get here and get around once you are on our lovely island!
